Our MP Has Spoken Up

Claire Hazelgrove, the Labour MP for nearby Filton & Bradley Stoke, has publicly voiced her concerns about the plans to build over a hundred homes on fields adjoining Hicks Common Road, opposite the Winterbourne duck pond, even as the Government pushes for more housing nationally.

Although housing supply is a key priority, Hazelgrove has said she is worried about “speculative, ad-hoc development” that goes against the Local Plan and could lead to unplanned sprawl. She’s seeking clarity from the council about why Hicks Common is even being considered for development when it was not included in the new draft Local Plan.

You can read the Full article in which Claire raises these concerns and steps she is taking on the Bristol Live Website.

Why This Matters

The fight to Save Hicks Common is not just about opposing homes — it’s about protecting what matters most to our community:

  • Our Green Belt identity
  • A place where families walk, play, and enjoy nature
  • Wildlife habitats and biodiversity
  • The gap between Winterbourne and neighbouring villages that prevents urban sprawl
